A Practical Guide

by Simon Ennals

Lexis Nexis UK 2004, ISBN 0-7545-2569-4
Price £45.95

This publication claims to provide key facts, figures and background information on all types of means and non-means tested benefits. It does all this and more, albeit perhaps to a limited audience. Navigating the text requires a certain level of understanding but does get easier as you progress through your enquiry. It has a user friendly layout, including tables, key facts and figures and guidance on changes to the system.

Fundamental changes to the social security system took effect in April 2002. The Government is committed to reforming the welfare system. Two new Government departments - the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department of Education and Skills - will bring about great change in social security access and procedure. The Guide has been completely updated to reflect those changes.

The new edition builds on its reputation for providing comprehensive coverage of all social security and state benefit issues.
