Ellesmere Model

The Ellesmere tactile model, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has been installed in the Meres Visitor Centre in Ellesmere. This is a temporary home for it pending the redevelopment of Mereside.

The model was a project managed by the Dog Rose Trust with the work being carried out by Frank Triggs of Woodforms, Bob Jones of RMJ Mouldings Shrewsbury and Richard Taylor, coppersmith and sculptor.

Richard worked with local schools and groups to create the copper panels that are around the outside of the model. He also made street names and the Braille as well as the key around the side for the buildings made by Frank.

It is hoped that this model will give everyone, including those with visual impairments, a good indication of the layout of the town and the extent of the Mere itself.

Many local children took part in the workshops to create the copper tiles around the model. Their names will be displayed in the Meres Visitor Centre.
